When Microsoft developed windows 8, they were having in mind to provide cloud service directly to the PCs and windows phones of their customer. Microsoft wants to allow their users to roam anywhere with their huge personal data, without the use of any USB drives, thus Microsoft has integrated windows 8 with SkyDrive. Windows 8 provides you a Metro style Title app which lets you to directly connect to your SkyDrive account if you’re signed-in using your Live-ID (another feature in windows 8 ) thus proved as a best way to browse and manage your SkyDrive. Also SkyDrive can be integrated across other Metro style app running on the desktop which has a capability to open/save the file using charms and contracts, as it can directly takes you to SkyDrive for opening and saving the files. Developers developing apps for windows 8 smartphone can also integrate SkyDrive to use as a file picker.
After lots of request from its customers Microsoft has integrated Skydrive directly with windows explorer as well.
via an app installer.
This installer will create a folder under (%userprofile%\SkyDrive\) which gets auto sync with the online data and remain up-to-date always with the latest changes in the file or folder. Although Microsoft has restricted individual file size to 100MB but if you are uploading a file from the desktop the restriction has reduced to 2GB. Microsoft has worked deeply to maintain your network efficiency, so you don’t need to worry about your network performance.
Another feature of Skydrive in windows 8 is that it lets you to make your own computer as a personal cloud, as you can access your computer over the internet to access your stuff as long as you are running SkyDrive on the desktop.
“When designing the new SkyDrive, we knew not everyone would want to put 100% of their files in the cloud just yet. People are selective, and while some will move all of their files into SkyDrive, others will want to start slowly and use SkyDrive just for roaming some important documents and pictures from their Windows Phone camera roll. Knowing that most people would still have files on a remote PC that weren’t available through SkyDrive, we built a new feature that allows you to “reach across” the Internet to access any file, stream videos, or view photo albums from a remote PC that is running SkyDrive on the desktop. For any remote folder or file, you can also choose to “copy to SkyDrive,” so that you’ll always have it across your devices.”
