Guys I guess until now you may have tasted the flavor of windows 8, afterall Microsoft has opened the channel for downloading beta version of windows 8. Some of you may have tried to install the Operating system in virtual environment using application such as VmWare, VirtualPc, Hyper-V, etc, and might have come across with an error “HAL_INITIALIZATION_FAILED” in certain version of virtual applications.
I also downloaded windows 8 and tried to install it on Microsoft VirtualPc 2007 and just after installation get started I get an error “HAL_INITIALIZATION_FAILED”. You’ll see a different kind of Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD), I guess, have Microsoft changed the BSOD screen as in traditional windows we used to see a blue screen with some error code. You’ll also see a sad gesture :( on the error screen, its kinda funny but looks awesome.
HAL INITIALIZATION FAILED
Anyway what caused the error, as I was running the machine on recommended hardware configuration. I googled and came to know that Windows 8 does not support every virtual platform, windows 8 is choosey while it comes to run this operating system on virtualized platform. Windows 8 does not support any platform which is not compatible with it, Here are the list of supported and unsupported platforms-
Supported:
Hyper-V in Windows 8 Developer Preview
Hyper-V in Windows Server 2008 R2
VMware Workstation 8.0 for Windows
VirtualBox 4.1.2 for Windows
Unsupported:
Microsoft Virtual PC (all versions)
Microsoft Virtual Server (all versions)
Windows 7 XP Mode
VMWare Workstation 7.x or older
